Make a Miniature Cabinet of Curiosity with Lady Delaney

The What:

Unlock your miniature crafting potential in this hands-on 3-hour workshop, where you’ll dive into Lady Delaney's favorite materials for creating tiny, intricate artifacts. We’ll provide a treasure trove of tools and materials for you to experiment with, so you can let your creativity run wild. No prior experience is required—just bring your imagination!

The History:

During the Renaissance, wealthy collectors curated "cabinets of curiosities," private collections of fascinating and eclectic artifacts. This tradition gave rise to both dollhouses and modern museums. Inspired by these historical practices, we will use miniature objects to tell our own stories. Each participant will receive a 1-inch scale curio cabinet, which we will fill over the course of three hours with handcrafted and distressed “curiosities.”

In this workshop, each miniature object will introduce you to various materials and techniques, equipping you with skills for future projects. Course materials will include a rich assortment of miniature ephemera, such as antique photographs, specimen labels, documents, and antique book covers. You’ll also have access to a range of research images to spark your creativity. Drawing on art theory and theatrical design principles, we'll explore how to arrange your miniatures to create a dynamic and visually compelling display. This class emphasizes personal expression, allowing you to tailor your curio cabinet to your individual taste and style. Feel free to bring any personal curios to integrate into your creation!

The Who:

Lady Delaney is an artist and author whose work has appeared in the Tiffany & Co. windows, Anthropologie marketing campaigns, and numerous exibits and collections. When not sculpting strange miniatures from scraps, she is chasing ghosts.

The Where:

This spooky workshop will take place in the suitably haunted halls of a French Quarter mansion, rarely opened for public viewing. Light refreshments will be served. Secret location to be disclosed to lucky ticket holders.
